I could resist no longer. I was truly powerless. It was SOooo Sweet!
So now I own a little blue netbook. $199 from Target. It’s still running windows but tomorrow should be up running Ubuntu’s netbook remix.
Just one compulsive eater to another

Sung to the tune of the Popeye theme song:
I'm Stevie an OA man
Don't eat from a garbage can
Surrender my will
Weigh and measure my fill
I'm Stevie an OA man.

I have that same blue HP netbook, though a generation or two behind yours (I got mine a year ago), running the ubunto netbook remix. It is so sweet, and it’s not too bad getting the wifi up and running so you can go anywhere there’s a wifi connection.
My only recommendation is to get yourself a couple of the biggest SD cards you can (I have two 16s) and enjoy the extra room for documents and downloads. Oh, and I got a long-life battery, and that is so nice having 6+ hours of battery life when I’m out and about.
I have an Acer with 160Gb drive and a gig of memory. Tomorrow I’ll pick up a USB stick or two tomorrow and load Ubuntu on that. I might go dual boot. Maybe not.
Why SD cards? Can you boot from those?
I’ve looked for batteries on-line. There are some real honkers. I’ll get something. I’m still getting used to the keyboard and the awful built in “buttons” on the touch pad. I’ll probably invest in a wireless mouse.
Happy Thursday Jess!
Daaang that is a big drive… my little netbook had 8 Gig internal and 8 Gig via SD card. That is a sweet little machine you got there.
You can boot from the SD cards, but generally it’s to increase the capacity. I’d do USB thumbdrive boot instead.
The wireless mice are definitely worth it. Just look for a nano receiver, because the big receivers can destroy a USB port if you bump them. The nano dongles also fit inside the mice and automatically turn off the mouse when the receiver is inside the mouse. I love my Logitech mouse (a little pricey, but an awesome mouse) and a friend of mine got a $15 wireless nano dongle mouse.
I got one of those small wireless mice too. Just like you said, the usb part fits in the mouse, and when inserted, the mouse is off for sure, saving batteries. Mine is logitech, black friday for about 14-15 bucks.
